Top 10 PPC trends for 2026

AI at the center of campaigns, first-party data, video, conversational search, and cross-platform campaigns: the ten trends reshaping paid advertising in 2026.

Paid advertising (PPC) changes fast. What worked a few years ago doesn’t work as well today, because both the algorithms and the way people buy have changed.

Before you set your budgets, it’s worth looking at the trends we see across Google, Meta, and TikTok, and what they mean for your strategy.

1. AI moves to the center of campaigns

Artificial intelligence keeps changing how campaigns are built and optimized. In 2026, AI no longer just automates a few steps. It sits at the core of the campaign: it analyzes the data, suggests audiences, and moves budgets in real time, without constant human input.

According to The Wall Street Journal (June 2025), Meta aims to make it possible, by the end of 2026, for ads to be created entirely with AI, images and copy included, with the system also choosing the audience on its own.

For advertisers, that means two things:

  • you need to understand the data, not just hand it over to the AI;
  • the quality of the data you feed it (product feeds, measurement data, offline conversions) matters more than the old PPC settings did.

2. First-party data becomes non-negotiable

Privacy rules are getting stricter, Safari and Firefox block third-party cookies, and some visitors decline marketing cookies. What stays clean and under your control is first-party data: what customers give you directly (email, on-site behavior, orders, and so on).

That’s why strategies are increasingly built around this data: your customer list, enhanced conversions, and the Conversions API give algorithms the signals cookies no longer provide.

3. Video and visual search become the main discovery channels

People watch more and more visual content, and PPC is no exception. Short, dynamic, natural clips, even ones shot on a phone, outperform static banners on TikTok, Instagram Reels, and YouTube Shorts. Visual search is growing too (someone uploads a photo to find similar products, with Google Lens for example). Online stores need clear product photos so they can be found this way as well.

4. Automation meets personalization

2026 brings an interesting paradox: campaigns are more and more automated, while people want more and more personal experiences.

The result is more dynamic creative optimization (DCO): ad variations generated automatically for each audience segment. The same ad can show different copy, a different image, or a different offer to people who added products to the cart than to people who only viewed the product page.

5. Voice and conversational search matter more

People increasingly ask full questions, spoken or typed, to voice assistants and AI chats (for example, “What’s the best face cream for winter?”).

For PPC campaigns, this means fewer long lists of exact-match keywords and more broad match and AI-driven features (in Google Ads, for example, AI Max for Search campaigns), along with ads and landing pages that answer questions clearly.

Update, October 2026: this has moved faster than expected. Ads now run inside ChatGPT (what that means for advertisers), and Google’s Universal Commerce Protocol lets shoppers buy directly in AI Mode and the Gemini app (how it works).

6. Cross-platform campaigns become the norm

Separate campaigns on Google or Meta are no longer enough. Someone sees an ad on Instagram, searches on Google, remembers the brand on TikTok, and maybe buys in the end after a remarketing email.

Whoever coordinates PPC across platforms and follows the whole customer journey has a clear advantage.

7. Automated budgets and clearer attribution

Budgets are moving from fixed allocations to dynamic models, where AI systems shift money between channels, campaigns, or audiences based on performance and real-time behavioral signals.

At the same time, classic attribution methods (last click, for example) are no longer enough. You need data-driven models that follow conversions across the whole customer journey.

8. AI moves heavily into visual production

More and more creative professionals use AI tools for images and video, and Google, Meta, and TikTok all have their own image and video generators for ads. That changes how ads get made and lowers the cost of decent creative.

In other words, smaller brands can compete visually with the big ones.

9. Privacy and transparency set you apart

Privacy rules force platforms and advertisers to be clearer about how they collect and use data.

In PPC, segmentation and remarketing will need adapting more often to respect consent and people’s rights, without losing efficiency.

10. Ad fraud remains a problem

With bigger budgets and a more sophisticated market, businesses need to watch out for ad fraud: fake clicks, bot traffic, and more, which eat budget without real results.

Juniper Research estimated in 2023 that global losses to ad fraud run into tens of billions of dollars a year, and are growing. Check regularly where your clicks come from, exclude suspicious placements, and track real conversions, not just clicks.

In short

2026 brings many small changes heading in the same direction:

  • more advanced AI;
  • first-party data as an essential resource;
  • campaigns coordinated across platforms;
  • more attention to visuals and to the whole customer journey.

If you invest in PPC, get your tracking and first-party data in order first. Platform automation only works with what you give it, and in 2026 the difference comes from feeding it good data and knowing your customers.
